Google Chrome added to browser detection

Today Google released their new browser, Google Chrome, and we've already added support for it into Clicky, as can be seen by the screenshot below:

I think Google made a lot of good decisions with the design of this browser (each tab its own process, etc). I've been playing around with it for an hour or two and it's pretty slick. Until it adds a bunch more customization, however (more preferences, and extensions like Firefox has), I don't think I could ever use it full time. One preference I really need is focusing on a new tab when it is opened as the result of a middle click on a link. Most browsers default to making new tabs open in the background, but all have a preference to change this behavior. Not Chrome though!

Oh well. I still think it's impressive for a first release.

Update Well, Chrome is certainly a hit. We analyzed the data from all 45,000 sites on our service, and Chrome has a 2% global market share. We made this page that shows the live figure (updated every 15 minutes)!

I really like the new Chrome. Our browsers are becoming Goodzillas, with so many addons and for development matters, Chrome is what was missing!

I like it, although I'll have to wait to use it full time until I can customize it a little more.

Allen, from our TOS:

"From time to time, Roxr may release statistical reports of the traffic trends for sites registered with the Service, such as web browser usage or geolocation data. These reports are of a general nature and will not contain any information that can be linked to any one person or web site."

This basically falls under that. We are not keeping tabs on any one site, nor are we looking specifcally at anyone's data. We are just running a script that is processing data for ALL sites and pulling out the Chrome users to calculate their percentage.

We're certainly just preaching to the choir here (meaning, Chrome users are coming to read about Chrome), but damn, 18% of visitors to getclicky.com today are using Chrome. Wow!

Just saw on the Google Analytics blog that they won't even be adding support for tracking Chrome for several weeks!

Man, it pays to be a small company sometime. I was able to add support for it to Clicky in just 30 minutes.

Chrome is by far the tidiest browser at the moment (yes, even more so than Safari.) Hopefully the full version will have some new add-ons, though.
