New option to anonymize IP addresses

We just added a new site preference to log IP addresses anonymously, which takes the last octet and changes it to 0. For example, 123.123.123.123 would become 123.123.123.0. And we're not just hiding the last octet from you - we remove it before storing it, so it should comply with laws in places like Germany where it's technically illegal to log the full IP address of a visitor.

This preference is available to all users. You can find it in your site preferences, under "advanced".

Does this also mean that webservers are breaking the law by recording full IP addresses in their logs for German visitors? Or does it only apply when you are 'processing' the data, such as using it in a report?

Hey, I have a question and couldn't find your contact e-mail. I have an yearly subscription of $29,99. If I want to pay now it says that I get "an Pro-rated discount: -$20.95 for your existing premium subscription." What does that mean? If I were to pay now (again) for my subscription, I would pay only $9 or what? Thanks.

Barney, I don't know. What I do know that the law is silly nonsense clearly written by someone who has no idea how the internet works.

Silviu, pro-rated discount is relative to how much time you have left on your current subscription. If you have ~$21 left then you are only about 4 months into your subscription. So that remaining amount would be credited towards your payment if you signed up for another plan now (yes, including the same one). Your billing date resets when you sign up for a new one.
